Navy Engineers and Public Works Professionals Benefit From TSOD Business Writing Training

May 1, 2009

(Corpus Christi, Texas)   Training Services On Demand, Inc. (TSOD: www.tsod.com) provided Business Writing Workshops for uniformed and civilian U.S. Navy Public Works professionals at the Naval Air Station (NAS) Kingsville and the Naval Air Station (NAS) Corpus Christi, both on the South Texas Gulf Coast.

TSOD Business Writing Workshops focus on both correctness and effectiveness.

The workshops first update participants on the ever-changing grammar, punctuation, and usage rules that everybody needs to know. The interactive courses emphasize frequently violated standards that turn language purists odd colors when they receive ill-conceived e-mails.

The second part of the programs emphasize good writing tools: The methods savvy writers use when revising their work to enhance clarity and boost effectiveness. Participants learn how writing in the active voice, nominalization, and going on a "which" hunt can convert mundane documents—even technical memoranda—into readable, meaningful written results.

"Our goal is to make good writing a straightforward process," said Frank Whyte, TSOD's chief instructor and the facilitator for both Navy writing programs. "We find that most of us have the skills to be good writers, but just need some updates, tricks, and encouragement."

NAS Corpus Christi was commissioned on March 12, 1941. The first flight training began less than two months later. By the end of World War II, more than 35,000 naval aviators, including former President George H. W. Bush, had earned their wings here. Currently, Training Air Wing FOUR produces approximately 600 newly qualified aviators each year.

Naval Air Station Kingsville is one of the U.S. Navy’s premier locations for jet aviation training. To accomplish its mission, NAS Kingsville is home to Training Air Wing TWO and several tenant commands, military as well as civilian, with a total complement of approximately 300 officers, 200 enlisted, 350 civilian personnel, and 625 contract maintenance personnel.
