(Washington DC) Accomplished television news director Tim Sharp has joined the faculty of Training Services On Demand. A 25-year veteran of radio, television, and print journalism, Sharp brings significant customer benefits to TSOD's MediaSavvy media relations curriculum.
"In my two-decades-long relationship with Tim, I've never known a more respectable journalist," said Frank Whyte, chief curriculum officer for TSOD. "Tim adds significant depth and an uncommon perspective to our media training workshops."
Currently a Presidential appointee to the prestigious E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, Sharp's experience includes every conceivable journalism function, from street reporter through large-market news director. He has produced and anchored hundreds of television newscasts and has reported for both broadcast and print outlets.
"By working in the MediaSavvy program, I hope to level the playing field," Sharp said. "Journalists receive years of training and practice, while interview subjects often are thrown into the spotlight feeling defenseless. This workshops gives interviewees a fighting chance at getting their point across in a meaningful way."
Sharp's eye-opening exposure to other reporters' methods and practices occurred when he was nominated to a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. As a candidate, he witnessed an entirely different set of challenges, and quickly adapted his journalism skills to begin managing his media encounters.
"Tim's experience on both sides of the lectern will give our training participants an uncommon, application-level perspective," Whyte said.
The MediaSavvy training program is conducted for private groups of corporate and government customers nationwide. Available in a highly interactive two-day format, a condensed one-day seminar, or a one-topic keynote basis, MediaSavvy reveals how reporters think, what they expect from interviews, and how interviewees can optimize their news media encounters.
